Reports to the Senior Director, Academic Services, or the Assistant Director, Academic Services.We are looking for Math, CIS, Computer Science, Psychology, Anatomy & Physiology, Microbiology, and Genetics tutors. Ideally, these tutors will work on campus.ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:Help tutees develop study skills and acclimate to college level courseworkCommunicate subject matter to tutees in a concise and effective mannerNavigate learning obstacles by understanding learning styles and integrating effective study and learning strategies for academic successDevelop independent learning by promoting appropriate learning attitudes and behaviorsMonitor student understanding and require tutees to participate in sessionsMaintain academic honesty by not doing a tutees homework or take-home quizzes/examsMaintain consistent weekly availability in the Academic CenterSubmit accurate timesheets and all session-related paperwork in a timely mannerMaintain excellent responsibility, reliability, punctuality, and professional behaviorAttend trainings, participate in professional development as required, and develop a good understanding of college services, support, and online resourcesCreate a welcoming and positive environment that is sensitive to student diversityGreet visitors, students, faculty and staff; perform reception desk dutiesDemonstrate above-average creative problem-solving, critical thinking, patience, and decision-making skillsMaintain tutor-student confidentiality; uphold college and Academic Center’s mission statements; handle confidential information in compliance with FERPA and Title IX.Use small office equipment, including copy machines or multi-line telephone systemsUse computers for word processingPerforms other duties as assignedJob RequirementsMINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM WORK: Associate, bachelor’s, or master’s degree in related fieldExtensive coursework in the subject area to be tutoredAbility to maintain confidentialityMust be positive, cooperative, and supportivePreferred:Bachelor’s or master’s degree in related fieldExperience in educational environmentPHYSICAL DEMANDS:This work is normally sedentary work which requires exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects. Additionally, the following physical abilities are required:Hear/talk/communicate – Must be able to exchange information and communicateVisual Acuity/ability to perceive or detect surroundingsMental acuity – Able to focus, concentrate, understand, and convey subject matterRepetitive motion (i.e., keyboarding)Stand/sit/walk/able to move or traverse from one area to anotherWORK ENVIRONMENT:College campus, direct contact with students, staff, faculty and the general public in classrooms, common and shared areas, offices, and campus environments. Work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts which require normal safety precautions typical of such places as office, meeting, and training rooms. Use of safe workplace practices with office equipment; computers for data entry and word processing with some highly technical applications and new technology systems; avoidance of trips and falls; observance of fire and building safety regulations and observance of all College policies.
