JOB DESCRIPTION
Job Title: Vascular Ultrasound Technologist
Location: Houston, TX 77025
Duration: 3 months contract with possible extensions
Schedule: Monday–Friday | 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM
Shift: 5 x 8-hour shifts per week
Travel: Not required
Work Setting: Onsite Clinical (No home visits)
Interview Process: In-person (verbal + practical scanning assessment)
Dress Code: Scrubs (any color)
Job Summary
Under the direction of a qualified healthcare provider, the Vascular Ultrasound Technologist performs diagnostic vascular sonography using high-frequency sound waves. This role ensures high-quality imaging, accurate documentation, and adherence to departmental policies within the Kelsey-Seybold Clinic (KSC) Radiology Department. The technologist utilizes RIS and PACS systems for patient imaging workflows and may perform additional duties as deemed appropriate by leadership.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical & Technical Duties
- Perform diagnostic vascular ultrasound procedures in accordance with department protocols
- Conduct studies including:
- Carotid duplex
- Venous duplex
- Renal duplex
- Aortic studies
- Ensure optimal image quality using sound technical knowledge of anatomy, pathology, and sonographic principles
- Apply age-appropriate communication techniques to effectively guide patients through procedures
Patient Care
- Provide high-quality, compassionate patient care with a positive bedside manner
- Prepare patients for non-invasive diagnostic testing and ensure comfort and safety
- Communicate clearly with patients to facilitate accurate imaging
Quality Control & Compliance
- Participate in routine equipment maintenance and technical quality assurance
- Identify and report equipment issues or malfunctions
- Follow infection control, safety protocols, and sterile techniques as required
- Maintain documentation such as cleaning logs and equipment checks
Documentation & Systems
- Accurately document imaging studies and patient information in RIS
- Ensure proper image archiving and troubleshooting within PACS
- Report atypical findings or imaging challenges for radiologist review
Collaboration & Communication
- Work closely with radiologists, supervisors, and lead technologists
- Communicate effectively with multidisciplinary staff across locations
- Participate in team discussions and feedback processes
Qualifications
Education
- Required: High School Diploma or GED
- Preferred: Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in a related healthcare field
Experience
- Required: Minimum 1+ year of clinical experience performing vascular ultrasound studies
- Proven ability to perform studies to radiologist standards
- Preferred: 2+ years of vascular ultrasound experience
Certifications (Required)
- RVT (Registered Vascular Technologist) or RVS (Registered Vascular Specialist)
- BCLS (Basic Cardiac Life Support) certification
Skills & Competencies
- Strong knowledge of vascular anatomy, pathology, and sonographic imaging principles
- Ability to consistently produce high-quality diagnostic images
- Familiarity with RIS and PACS systems
- Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
- Basic computer and typing skills
- Ability to identify and troubleshoot imaging or system issues
- Bilingual skills (preferred)
