The program culminates with a report-out presentation to leaders from the organization. After successful completion of the program interns will be considered to return as a full-time associate upon graduation.This position is part of the Technical Operations department located in Madison Wisconsin and will be onsite working 40 hours a week on first shift. You will be part of the technical operations team and report to the Senior Manager Technical Operations. The undergraduate intern activities include but not limited to assisting with complex projects in the areas of recombinant protein expression purification or testing. The undergraduate Intern will work collaboratively on client driven development projects and independently on implementing process and testing improvement actions. The Undergraduate Intern has the opportunity to participate in technical interactions with clients. Protein Expression Purification and Characterization (duties will differ based on department assignment). In this role you will have the opportunity to:Express recombinant proteins in microbial or eukaryotic expression systems at scales ranging from milliliter to hundreds of liters using shake flasks and automated bioreactorsPurify recombinant proteins at scales ranging from milligrams to tens of grams using automated chromatography systemsCharacterize in-process samples and purified proteins using methods including but not limited to OD determination metabolite profiling SDS-PAGE RP-HPLC aSEC LAL assayDevelop assays for testing purified proteins against a panel of release criteriaComplete project plans according to all specifications including timeline and budgetEvaluate and implement new technologies and work practices in the fields of protein expression purification and characterizationPrepare and deliver final presentation to the team on work performed during the internshipThe essential requirements of the job include: Working towards an undergraduate degree in biology biochemistry chemistry chemical engineering microbiology or a closely related fieldPrevious lab experienceExposure to one or a combination of the following is preferred: automated single-use or stainless bioreactor systems and control software GE ÄKTA systems and unicorn software or HPLC systems and control/data analysis software.Join our winning team today.
