JOB DESCRIPTION

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) Unit Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily clinical operations of a designated nursing unit within the skilled nursing facility. The Unit Manager ensures the delivery of high-quality resident care, supervises nursing staff, maintains regulatory compliance, and collaborates with interdisciplinary teams to support resident health and well-being.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Oversee and coordinate daily operations of the assigned nursing unit.

  • Supervise and support nursing staff including LPNs, CNAs, and other clinical personnel.

  • Ensure residents receive appropriate care in accordance with physician orders, care plans, and facility policies.

  • Participate in care plan development and interdisciplinary care conferences.

  • Monitor documentation to ensure accuracy and compliance with state and federal regulations.

  • Perform resident assessments and assist with care planning as needed.

  • Investigate and respond to incidents, accidents, and resident/family concerns.

  • Ensure proper medication administration practices and monitor treatment effectiveness.

  • Coordinate admissions, transfers, and discharges of residents.

  • Provide leadership, coaching, and performance feedback to nursing staff.

  • Maintain infection control standards and ensure adherence to safety protocols.

  • Collaborate with physicians, therapists, social workers, and other members of the healthcare team.

  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and regulatory surveys.

  • Ensure compliance with regulations from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services and the Pennsylvania Department of Health.

Qualifications

  • Current, active LPN license in the state of Pennsylvania.

  • Minimum 2–3 years of nursing experience, preferably in long-term care or skilled nursing.

  • Previous supervisory or leadership experience preferred.

  • Strong knowledge of long-term care regulations and clinical practices.

  • Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and lead a team effectively.
