Come work where you will matter!Hours: Per Diem 6:30am - 3:00pm Monday - Friday days No holidays or weekendsHourly Rate: $18.50 - $24.41Job Summary:Surgical Day Care (SDC) is a very fast paced environment. Unit secretary in SDC will see around 50 patients per day. Some of the responsibilities include greeting patients checking them in putting charts together ahead of time ensuring all necessary documentation is available. Ideal candidate must be proficient in Meditech Athena Microsoft Word and Excel; must be able to multitask and prioritize in a busy environment with competing priorities. Good interpersonal skills are a must.ResponsibilitiesEssential FunctionsProvides clerical support to clinical staff (e.g. maintains unit files organizes patient care record prepares admission and pre-op charts etc).Under direction of nurse makes all appropriate arrangements for outside services transfers and ambulance services in a timely manner.Appropriately prioritizes tasks adjusting to changing workload as necessary (e.g. seeks assistance as needed from appropriate resources recognizes emergency situations etc.).Maintains clean and safe work environment (identifies and/or removes safety hazards).Performs thorough timely and accurate transcription of physicians orders (including entering into Meditech OE module where utilized).Provides clerical support for the Manager and Team Leader to ensure all needed information is communicated to other parties and so that reports and projects are completed accurately and on time.Participates in the learning for colleagues and self (e.g. assist with orientation of new staff in-services educational programs etc.).Inputs all pertinent patient data for surgical scheduling such as patient records labs reports consent forms etc in collaboration with physician office.Prints posts and updates schedules on a daily basis.Supports physicians and nursing staff in patient care coordination.Establishes and maintains a good working relationship with patients physicians physicians office staff visitors and other members of the health care team through responsiveness accuracy of information and professionalism.Coordinates the flow of patients entering and leaving the department to ensure smooth functioning of the department.Assumes day-to-day responsibility for booked surgical procedures in order to maintain a surgical schedule.Ensures surgical and PAT bookings reflect pertinent patient information such as patient information type of surgery assistants and special needs.Works collaboratively with the Team Leader / Charge Nurse to keep them informed of changes in the schedule and other pertinent information.Updates and correctly logs surgical cases on a daily basis.Enters patient charges in the computer on a daily basis.Creates copies and distributes reports and statistics as needed for daily and monthly projects and activities.Records types and distributes staff meeting minutes on a monthly basis.Statement of Other DutiesThis document describes the major duties and responsibilities for this job and is not intended to be a complete list of all tasks and functions.
