Department:OrientationSalary:$8.25 per hour (Max 26 hours per week)Position Summary:The University Student Assistant Employee is responsible for First and Second Year Experience Office operations and is responsible for assisting with special events within the Student Success Center including but not limited to: Gamecock Orientation Freshman Convocation Preview Day Admitted Student Day etc.Positions may be filled based on individual applicants skills qualifications and departmental needs.Adheres to all department and University policies and procedures.Duties & Responsibilities:Assist with office work including reviewing reports printing information creating packets for students etc.Assisting with working big events like Gamecock Orientation sessions and Freshman Convocation.Work tabling events for the First & Second Year Experience Office.Assist students and family members with checking in at Gamecock Orientation/other events with a positive and friendly demeanor.Able and willing to work with a diverse group of students faculty staff and the general public.Communicate with the First & Second Year Experience Office staff co-workers campus directors students administration and other contacts in a professional manner.An understanding and commitment to encouraging and developing student involvement.Performs other duties assigned by the Director for First & Second Year Experience.Minimum Qualifications:Applicants must be enrolled as a JSU student taking at least three (3) hours per fall or spring semester. (Requirements for international students below. *)If not a first-time student the applicant must have a GPA of 2.00 or higher.Selected applicants must provide evidence of student enrollment and GPA (unofficial transcript or printout of enrollment/GPA from MyJSU.Preferred Qualifications:Knowledge:Knowledge of general University policies and procedures.Knowledge of Student services and programs on campus.Knowledge of the Student Success Center responsibilities and major events.Skills:Excellent communication skills written and oral.Demonstrates effective public speaking skills.Basic computer skills (Microsoft office internet etc.)Developed creative writing skills.Abilities:Ability to read and comprehend written materials encountered on the job.Ability to gather and analyze information in order to make recommendations.Ability to work in a team atmosphere with minimal supervision.Ability to learn and adapt to changing situations and requirements.Ability to set goals and objectives and develop strategies to achieve those goals.Notice Regarding International Students:All international students must be in a valid immigration status.Please visit the International Programs website for additional information: to Visa requirements international students must be enrolled as a full-time JSU student and possess each of the following:Passport from their respective country.F-1 Student Visa or J-1 Exchange Student Visa.U.S. Customs Form I-94.Official photo identification.Official Social Security Card imprinted with Valid for Work Only or similar statementRequired Documents:Cover LetterResumeUnofficial TranscriptClery Notice: In compliance with the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Crime Statistics Act the Jacksonville State University Police provide information on crimes statistics crime prevention law enforcement crime reporting and other related issues for the past three calendar years.
