Airport Electrician Specialist - Licensed Unrestricted (High Voltage)

General Description and Classification Standards

Employee performs highly skilled maintenance, installation, repair and troubleshooting

work involved with electrical systems. Electrical work may be performed in a number of

areas including runways, taxiways, and security gates. Work involves technical

application of electrical principles. This is a fully seasoned skilled level capable of

independently carrying out most assignments typical of the discipline. This level would

be attainable by multiple incumbents in a work group (not necessarily by all) but would

not be an "automatic" promotional level.

Supervision Received

Works under very general supervision. May work independently or with other skilled or

semi-skilled workers with responsibility for completion of assigned tasks.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

These are typical responsibilities for this position and should not be construed as

exclusive or all inclusive. May perform other duties as assigned.

Maintains runway and taxiway lights; troubleshoots to identify the problem and

repair as needed. Inspect and make repairs to taxiway lights and signs that are powered

by 2400 volts and current transformers.

Performs emergency repairs to runway lights and signs when required.

Installs, repairs and services specialized electrical equipment and machinery.

Constructs and maintains service equipment.

Reads electrical circuit diagrams.

Operates power hand tools and other specialized electrical equipment.

Requisitions material and supplies from stockroom; calls vendors to discuss

needs for parts and supplies and recommends purchases and suppliers.

Transfers primary power from one power source to another.

Sets poles, strings overhead lines and does overhead line maintenance.

Supervises other regular employees during a minor portion of the employee's

work time; duties include assigning and reviewing work
