Job DescriptionJob DescriptionJob Title: Varsity Baseball Assistant CoachClassification: Non-exempt, SeasonalReports To: Athletic DirectorSeason Dates: February 9, 2026 to May 8, 2026Job PurposeThe Varsity Baseball Assistant Coach supports the Head Coach in managing all facets of the BCL West League program. The core purpose is to provide expert instruction in baseball fundamentals and strategy, foster a positive, growth-oriented team culture, and facilitate the holistic development of student-athletes across a wide range of skill levels.Duties and ResponsibilitiesCoaching & InstructionSupport the Head Coach in all aspects of the varsity baseball program's daily operation, planning, and execution.Help plan and lead practices that are dynamic, skill-appropriate, and challenging for advanced athletes while providing foundational support for those newer to the sport.Teach fundamental baseball skills, advanced game strategy, situational awareness, and principles of sportsmanship.Provide positive, constructive, and individualized feedback to players to promote continuous technical and mental development.Assist with game-day preparation, including field setup, warm-ups, in-game decision-making, and player substitutions/management.Program Development & CultureContribute actively to building a positive, growth-oriented, and inclusive team culture that emphasizes effort, respect, and competition.Collaborate with the Head Coach and Athletic Department on long-term program development, strategy, and improvement initiatives.Uphold the philosophy of holistic, student-centered athletic development promoted by The Urban School of San Francisco.Act as a supportive and positive role model for all student-athletes.Compliance & AdministrationEnsure the safety and well-being of all student-athletes during practices, travel, and games.Maintain consistent communication with the Head Coach, Athletic Director, and athletes as needed.Meet and maintain (or be willing to complete) all required school, BCL West League, and CIF coaching certifications prior to the start of the season.Attend all scheduled practices and games on afternoons, evenings, and some weekends throughout the season.QualificationsExperience: Previous coaching or competitive playing experience at the high school, collegiate, or club level is strongly preferred.Knowledge: Strong, comprehensive understanding of baseball fundamentals, strategy, and modern player development across various positions.Skills: Demonstrated ability to effectively teach, communicate, and motivate athletes of differing experience and developmental levels.Commitment: Passionate about helping athletes grow and dedicated to fostering a supportive, inclusive, and competitive environment.Attributes: Strong organizational, interpersonal, and leadership skills suitable for working with high school athletes.Availability: Must be able to commit to the required practice and game schedule, including afternoons, evenings, and weekends.Working ConditionsPrimarily located at the team's home field, which requires regular travel to off-campus facilities for practices and games. Requires significant afternoon, evening, and weekend hours during the season.Physical RequirementsEssential Physical Tasks: Ability to work on your feet for extended periods while actively instructing and demonstrating skills. Must be able to throw/hit during drills and assist with the movement and setup of equipment (e.g., nets, tees, training aids).Direct ReportsN/A
