No.:: WF250171Position ID:: 194884About University at Albany:Established in 1844 and designated a University Center of the State University of New York in 1962, the University at Albany's broad mission of excellence in undergraduate and graduate education, research and public service engages a diverse student body of approximately 17,000 students in nine schools and colleges across three campuses.Located in Albany, New York, New York State's capital, the University is convenient to Boston, New York City and the Adirondacks.Job Description:The Computer Science Department within the College of Nanotechnology, Science, and Engineering at the University at Albany, SUNY, is seeking applicants for a Visiting Assistant Professor of Computer Science for the 2026-2027 academic year, with the possibility of renewal for AY27-28.The successful candidate is expected to develop an externally funded research program in computer science. In addition, the applicant will be responsible for teaching 2-4 courses per year at the undergraduate and graduate levels and participate in curriculum development. Specific teaching assignments will be determined by the candidate's expertise and the needs of the Department.Faculty are expected to provide service to the College and to their home departments and programs by participating in governance as well as providing professional service to the community and their disciplines. The successful applicant will be expected to actively mentor undergraduate and graduate students, including underserved and historically underrepresented students, and participate in pipeline programs to help build a diverse and representative student population. The applicant must also participate in research tied to their interests and expertise with faculty in other departments at UAlbany.Areas of particular interest include, but are not limited to, Software Engineering.Primary Responsibilities:Teach classes in computer science and software engineeringResearch, including supervision of PhD students and postdoctoral scholarsService to the CS department, CNSE, and UAlbany participating in departmental meetings, service activities such as student recruitment and outreachFunctional and Supervisory Relationships:Reports to Computer Science ChairSupervises the following positions: NoneMay supervise as assigned: Graduate and undergraduate students working as teaching assistants, lab supervisors, and gradersJob Requirements:Demonstrated ability to define and carry out internationally recognized research in the candidate's area of specialization within Computer ScienceDemonstrated teaching experience or strong potential for effectively teaching CS courses and otherwise communicate effectively about CS concepts at the undergraduate and graduate levelCommitment to student success, diversity, equity, and inclusion in STEM educationRequirements:Minimum Qualifications:PhD in Computer Science or related degree from a college or University accredited by the US Department of Education or internationally recognized accrediting organization by August 15, 2026.Demonstrated teaching experience or demonstrated potential for effective teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levelsDemonstrated potential for research in their field, including obtaining external fundingApplicants must demonstrate an ability to develop inclusive and equitable relationships within our diverse campus communityApplicants must demonstrate an ability to support diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and belonging relative to their rolePreferred Qualifications:Research publications in top tier computer science journals and conferencesExperience as a Graduate Teaching Assistant or Instructor for one or more computer science coursesA record of obtaining research fundingA record of student mentoringWorking Environment:Faculty will be provided with personal office space and lab space to support researchTeaching will be scheduled across the different campus teaching facilitiesClass schedules may include courses offered after 5 pm on weekdaysOnline courses may be scheduled at the discretion of the department chairThis position will require occasional evening and weekend work to support events and community activitiesTravel within New York State and beyond may be necessary Additional Information:Professional Rank and Salary Range: Visiting Assistant Professor, A5, Salary commensurate with experienceThe Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act, or Clery Act, mandates that all Title IV institutions, without exception, prepare, publish and distribute an Annual Security Report.
