Visiting Assistant Professor in Asian Art HistoryWashington and Lee University: Art and Art HistoryLocation: Lexington, VAOpen Date: Dec 01, 2025Deadline: DescriptionThe Department of Art and Art History at Washington and Lee University invites applications for a one-year, full-time, non-tenure-track position beginning July 1, 2026, with the possibility of renewal for a second year. Although the appointment officially begins in July, the successful candidate will not be expected to be on campus until mid-August 2026. This benefits-eligible appointment carries a six-course teaching load over three terms, distributed as two courses in the fall, three in the winter, and one during the four-week spring term. The position includes eligibility for conference travel support.We invite applications for a position in the history of Asian art and/or architecture, with a preference for a specialist in South Asian art and/or architectural history. We welcome scholars whose work engages the diverse artistic and architectural traditions of South Asia, broadly defined to include the Himalayan region and the Tibetan plateau, and who may situate their research within the wider contexts of Asian visual and material cultures. Chronological period is open.The successful candidate will teach a range of courses at the introductory, intermediate, and advanced levels, including classes in their area of specialization. We particularly encourage applicants whose research and teaching foster interdisciplinary and cross-cultural approaches to the study of art and architecture.
