Ability to teach a range of French language, literature, and culture courses.Job Description: The Department of Languages, Literatures and Cultures at the University of Florida (www.languages.ufl.edu), College of Liberal Arts and Sciences invites applications for the position of Visiting Assistant Professor in French and Medieval Studies to begin August 16, 2026. This is a one-year nine-month non-tenure accruing position with the possibility of renewal for one additional year. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to a robust program in Foreign Languages and Literatures by performing the following duties: 1) Teach 2 courses per semester in French language, literature, and culture, including courses focused on the medieval period (some of which may be taught in English). 2) Participate in service, including advising students, contributing to departmental events, and collaborating with the Center for Medieval and Early Modern Studies. 3) Engage in professional development and scholarly activities. 4) Explore and implement innovative pedagogical techniques. UF is the state's oldest, largest, and most comprehensive land grant university with an enrollment of over 50,000 students and was ranked 7th in the country among public universities (US News and World Report 2025 rankings), and 1st among public institutions in the Wall Street Journal 2023 survey. UF is located in Gainesville, a city of approximately 150,000 residents in North-Central Florida, 50 miles from the Gulf and 67 miles from the Atlantic Ocean, and within a 2-hour drive to large metropolitan areas (Orlando, Tampa, Jacksonville).
