Job DescriptionJob Description SATURDAYS-9:00AM TO 12:00PMSUMMARY: The Coach is responsible for various aspects of the program, including assisting with the orginazaiton of the program, such as recruiting, scheduling, training, conducting classes, clinics, and camps as well as motivating and coaching players in game strategies and techniques. In this role the Coach will be working with athletes with a varying skill levels, first priority is to instill the fundamentals of the game.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Includes the following:Manages and classes, clincs, and camps to promote individual growth in athletic skills, teamwork, discipline, respect, and good sportsmanship.Uses a variety of instructional techniques to meet the needs and improve the abilities of players.Assists with the planning of, and implements the program’s instructional goals and objectives to ensure the overall development of players.Works with other coaches toward a common goal within the program.Establishes performance criteria to evaluate players athletic abilities initially and on a regular basis.Determines program strategy based on the participants capabilities.Encourages sportsmanlike conduct in all phases of athletic activity at all times.Takes all necessary precautions to protect players, equipment, and facilities, including protecting students from hazing/bullying.Maintains and secures all equipment and supplies.Oversees process of cleaning, repairing, and storing all athletic equipment.Organizes seasonal schedule for upcoming seasons with Lead Coach.Follows established procedures in the event of an athlete’s injury.Represents the LGS Recreation in a professional manner.Maintains nondiscriminatory practices in all activities.Attends staff development meetings, clinics, and other professional activities to improve coaching performance.Performs other related duties as assigned by the Lead Coach or appropriate administrator.QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. KNOWLEDGE OF:Knowledge of current coaching techniques and procedures.Knowledge of NFHS, AAU, and other sport related rules/regulationsPrinciples and practices of effective coaching techniques and skillsRules, regulations, strategies, and techniques of the sportRules and regulations of competitive playStandard safety practices ABILITY TO:Instruct and supervise participantsLearn, monitor, and enforce relevant laws, rules, regulations, policies, and proceduresReact to and handle emergencies in a safe and effective mannerEstablish and maintain positive and effective working relationships with Academy administrators, staff, parents, and participantsUse English effectively to communicate in person, over the telephone, and in writingCommunicate in spoken and written word.Relate to players and teach them on and off the court.Assess players effectively.CERTICATIONSFirst Aid/CPR/AED & NFHS Certification- MUST POSSESS AT TIME OF HIRE.EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:Coach-A minimum of two years coaching experience (Middle School/High School experience preferred). Experience playing sport preferred.Asst. Coach-Experience playing sport. One year assistant coaching preferred. LANGUAGE SKILLS:Ability to read and comprehend instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization. REASONING ABILITY:Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:Must have current certificates in CPR, First Aid, NFHS Coaching, Cardiac Arrest, and Concussion. OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:Ability to abide by rules/regulations for competitive play.
