The Vice President of Design and Construction is a strategic leadership role responsible for overseeing the planning, design, and execution of construction projects across a global real estate portfolio, with a focus on healthcare environments. This role leads a multidisciplinary team of design professionals and project managers, ensuring alignment with corporate standards, operational needs, and regulatory requirements. You'll enjoy the flexibility to work remotely* from anywhere within the U.S. as you take on some tough challenges. For all hires in the Minneapolis or Washington, D.C. area, you will be required to work in the office a minimum of four days per week. Primary Responsibilities:Leadership & StrategyLead and mentor a global team of design professionals, project managers, and construction managersDevelop and implement design and construction strategies that support business objectives and enhance patient and employee experiencesEstablish and maintain design standards and occupancy planning protocols across all facilitiesProject OversightOversee the full lifecycle of capital projects, from concept through completion, ensuring quality, budget, and schedule adherenceManage relationships with third-party service providers including architects, engineers, contractors, furniture suppliers, and outsourced project management teamsEnsure compliance with healthcare regulations, building codes, and sustainability goalsStakeholder EngagementCollaborate with internal stakeholders including operations, clinical teams, finance, and legal to align project goals and outcomesServe as a key liaison with executive leadership, providing regular updates on project status, risks, and opportunitiesFinancial ManagementDevelop and manage capital budgets for design and construction initiativesOptimize cost efficiency through strategic sourcing, value engineering, and vendor performance managementInnovation & Continuous ImprovementDrive innovation in healthcare design, construction methods, and workplace planningImplement best practices and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance project delivery and operational performance You'll be rewarded and recognized for your performance in an environment that will challenge you and give you clear direction on what it takes to succeed in your role as well as provide development for other roles you may be interested in.Required Qualifications:15+ years of experience in design and construction5+ years in a senior leadership role with direct and indirect reportsExperience with third-party service providers, both as client and vendorExperience managing large-scale construction projects with a high volume and complexity of locationsProven exceptional leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skillsAbility to travel internationally as needed Preferred Qualifications:Experience within a healthcare organizationSolid knowledge of healthcare design standards, building systems, and regulatory requirementsExperience with global real estate portfolios *All employees working remotely will be required to adhere to UnitedHealth Group's Telecommuter Policy. The salary for this role will range from $196,600 to $337,100 annually based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
