Summary:Provides underwriting support counsel and authorization to company personnel and agents related to the issuance of real estate title insurance commitments and policies. Utilizes underwriting standards and guidelines within delegated authority limits to underwrite the issuance of title insuranceProvides guidance to company personnel in the performance of real estate settlement servicesIssues underwriting standards and guidelines in accordance with established company processesEssential Duties and Responsibilities:Determine the conditions of the title and insurability by considering the effect of documents such as deeds mechanics liens tax liens judgments assessments probates and other matters of recordProtect the company from risk by analyzing recorded documents for ownership accuracy legal description precision and potential impact on title. Explain chain of title exceptions and requirements to customers and managersRecognize title defects and formulate curative solutionAssess risks and liabilities that may jeopardize the company and bring these matters to the attention of the local title manager state title manager or senior underwriting counsel or chief underwriting counsel as appropriate.Review surveys prepared on properties and other proposed documents to be insured such as mortgages mortgage modifications etc.Work closely with the title agent and escrow staff to meet deadlines for closings and assist with answering questions related to issuance of the title commitment and policiesPerform other duties assigned by management.RequiredJuris Doctor (JD) required; licensed attorney in good standing in the state of employment with t5 years title underwriting or related real estate law experience preferredMust be familiar with real estate lawStrong understanding of fundamental concepts practices and procedures of real estate title and settlement processGeneral knowledge of Federal and State regulations related to real estate title insurance and settlement servicesGeneral understanding of underwriting real estate transactions for the issuance of title insurance policiesAbility to collaborate and act decisivelyDetail orientedExcellent listening verbal and written communication skillsGood organizational skills with the ability to multi-task prioritize and timely follow upStrong negotiation skillsCollaborative team player with the ability to act decisively and meet deadlinesCreative problem-solver with the ability to apply abstract thinking to complex title issuesPhysical DemandsThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
