Job Description

Responsibilities The Water Reclamation Bacteriologist Chemist performs chemical and biological analyses including the calibration operation and maintenance of complex scientific equipment and records and interprets the results necessary for operation of the Water Reclamation Facility and/or the Industrial Pretreatment Program in compliance with Federal State and NPDES regulations. The incumbent determines pollutions characteristics in these diverse areas: water reclamation sludge receiving stream water groundwater and industrial waste. Daily analyses are performed with considerable independent judgment and interpreted by the analyst for chemical and biological irregularities and trends in plant operations. Responsibilities also include performing oversite for the operations of the water reclamation treatment processes and collecting samples that will be analyzed for regulatory compliance and/or process control. The incumbent will also evaluate and interpret online process instrumentation to verify consistency with Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA). Minimum Qualifications Bachelors degree in Chemistry Biology Environmental or Physical Science or closely related discipline.Degree must be from a college or university that is accredited by the U.S. Department of Education through the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools Higher Learning Commission or equivalent region.License Requirements Must possess a valid drivers license at time of appointment and maintain thereafter as a term and condition of continued employment.Special RequirementsMust have or obtain an Ohio EPA Water Reclamation Operator Class I certification within two (2) years of appointment and maintain certification as a term and condition of continued employment until an Ohio EPA Water Reclamation Operator Class II certification is obtained. Must have or obtain an Ohio EPA Water Reclamation Class II certification within five (5) years of appointment and maintain certification thereafter as a term and condition of continued employment. Must obtain the OWEA (Ohio Water Environment Association) Water Reclamation Laboratory Analyst I certification within two (2) years of appointment and maintain certification as a term and condition of continued employment until an OWEA Class II certification is obtained. Must obtain OWEA (Ohio Water Environment Association) Water Reclamation Laboratory Analyst II certification within five (5) years of appointment and maintain certification thereafter as a term and condition of continued employment.
