Job DescriptionJob DescriptionDecatur Shelby County YMCAJob DescriptionJob Title: Wellness AdvisorOriginal Date: 05/13/2025Revised Date:Department: Wellness Reports To: Director of WellnessBasic Functions and Scope of ResponsibilityThe Wellness Advisor is responsible for creating a welcoming, safe, and supportive environment for all members in the YMCA wellness center. This role provides guidance, education, and encouragement to help individuals achieve their health and wellness goals. Wellness Advisors assist with equipment orientation, perform basic fitness assessments, and ensure a clean and safe workout space—all while reflecting the YMCA’s mission and core values.Role ResponsibilitiesGreet and engage members in a friendly, approachable manner to build relationships and promote wellnessProvide equipment orientations and instruction to ensure safe and effective use of fitness machinesPerform basic health and fitness assessments to support member goal-settingStay informed on current health and wellness trends to better support member needsMaintain cleanliness and safety of fitness equipment and workout spacesRespond to emergency situations in accordance with YMCA policies and proceduresAttend required staff meetings and trainingsPerform additional duties as assigned by the Wellness Director or SupervisorEducation, Experience & Training Minimum age: 18High school diploma or equivalent preferredBasic knowledge of exercise science and wellness principles preferred CPR, AED and First Aid certification obtained within 30 days of employmentMust complete the following YMCA wellness training courses within 90 days of hire: Foundations of Listen First, Principles of Member Health & Wellness, Wellness at the YStrong communication and interpersonal skillsAbility to work independently and as part of a teamCore CompetenciesCaring: Show a sincere concern for othersHonesty: Be truthful in what you say and doRespect: Follow the golden rule Responsibility: Be accountable for your promises and actionsWork Environment and Physical DemandsVisual, auditory, and verbal ability to communicate effectively.Must have a high level of alertness, concentration, and initiative.
