Job DescriptionJob DescriptionPosition OverviewProvides leadership and oversight to the river trek staff and program. Supervise, train, manage, and deliver the river trek. Use the river trek as a vehicle to deliver the Scout Oath and Scout Law.Key ResponsibilitiesOrganize/manage 5-day whitewater Treks in New River Gorge National Park and PreserveTrain, manage, and supervise trek leads in all aspects of trek program and safety.Manage and supervise participants to ensure safety and quality of program.Maintain trek equipment in an organized and good working condition.Implement thorough leave no trace standards.Work with National Park Service to identify and participate in quality river service projects.Ensure staff receive periodically written performance evaluations.Model the Scout Oath and Law in daily interactionsMaintain a clean, organized, inspected, neat, and safe work areaPerform additional duties assigned by SBR leadershipAbide by policies and procedures outlined in the SBR staff handbookQualificationsMinimum age: 21+Required: Experienced and documented commercial Trip Leader on the New River in West Virginia.Required: Competent Class 1-3 whitewater paddler/oarsman. Strong multi-day rafting trip knowledge Able to become Red Cross Standard First Aid and CPR for the Professional Rescuer. (Training provided)Valid driver license and able to obtain a Summit Driving permit.Willing to become a registered Scouting America member (includes background screening)Comfortable using Microsoft Teams for daily work-related communicationPhysical & Practical RequirementsAbility to stand, walk, swim, and paddle up to 8 hours daily and ability to lift/move up to 70 poundsComplete the Annual Health and Medical Record, including height/weight guidelinesHousing: 10'x12' platform tent in Staff Camp | Uniform: Summit Staff Uniform | Work Hours: 5-6 day TrekDesired TraitsHigh emotional intelligence (such as self/social awareness and team dynamics)Positive and cheerful attitude with a strong customer-service focusAdaptability in a fast-paced environment with ability to learn/develop hard and soft skillsAbility to connect with individuals from diverse age groups, maturity, and backgrounds
