Job DescriptionJob DescriptionYoung Adult Tobacco InspectorSalary Range: $20/hrClosing Date: Open Until FilledDepartment: Public HealthGENERAL DESCRIPTION OF POSITIONThe young adult inspector (YAI) will work under the supervision of an Environmental Health Specialist to conduct unannounced compliance inspections at tobacco retailers. These inspections are made to ensure compliance with county, state and federal laws related to the sale and underage use of tobacco and underage smoking. The YAI will be accompanied by Environmental Health staff and will visit various licensed tobacco retail businesses throughout the year to conduct Minor Legal Sales Age (MLSA) inspections, specifically attempting to purchase tobacco products to test retailer compliance with the state law that prohibits selling tobacco products to people under 21. This is an hourly position with flexible scheduling as determined in coordination with Environmental Health staff.REQUIREMENTS FOR POSITIONMinimum Requirements:• Must be 18, 19, or 20 years of age, no older• Possess a valid Oregon drivers license or state-issued ID card• Ability to deal with the public in a pleasant, calm, tactful manner• Ability to maintain confidentiality• Able to follow directions and protocol precisely• Ability to recall events with great detail and communicate and document those events accurately• Reliability to work on scheduled days• Possess good verbal and written communication skills.Preferred Qualifications:• Bilingual in English/SpanishUse of Umatilla County application is MANDATORY and must be submitted via our online portal at https://umatilla.casellehire.com/jobs/ .
