Salary InformationCompensation plans are based on a multi-step progression system. The pay range reflects the entry level and maximum salary potential in the assigned pay grade. **A starting salary may be negotiated and will be commensurate with education training and experience in alignment with pay administration policies and Montgomery Personnel Board Rules & Regulations** Nature of WorkThe fundamental reason thisposition exists is to act as a lead in providing animal care to elephantshoused in the Montgomery Zoo. The workresponsibilities are: observes elephant collections and exhibits; maintainselephants and elephant exhibits; feeds elephants; leads Zookeeper I(Elephants); and contributes to departmental objectives. The Elephant Zookeeper II may be asked towork with other animals or in other animal areas as deemed necessary by thedepartment. The Zookeeper II (Elephant)is distinguished from the Zookeeper I (Elephant) in that the Zookeeper II assignedmore complex projects requires less direct supervision and serves as a leadworker to the Zookeeper I (Elephant) classification. The Elephant Zookeeper II reports directly tothe Assistant General Curator and/or the General Curator. However Elephant Zookeeper II may receivedirection and supervision from other managers and supervisors depending onassignment.Minimum QualificationsHigh school diploma or G.E.D. and two (2) yearsprofessional animal care experience in a zoo wildlife preserve circus ranchor similar setting to include at least six (6) months of professional elephantcare experience; or a combination of education and experience.NOTE: Qualifyingeducation training and experience that provide the requisite knowledge skillsand abilities to perform the job will be considered.Special RequirementsMust work outdoors in avariety of weather conditions. Must workovertime and/or irregular hours for special events projects andemergencies. Must work weekends as scheduledor as needed for special events projects and emergencies. Must have a valid drivers license andinsurable driving record as needed to operate City-owned vehicles.
